George W. Helbig , age 82, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Sellersburg Healthcare. He was born at home on March 29, 1939 to the late Henry Emmer Helbig (Simmons) in Clark County, Indiana. George was a past member of the First Church of Nazarene in Charlestown. He retired from the Clark County Highway Department where he worked as a mechanic. George enjoyed racing. He raced go-carts and worked on the pit crew for Dixon Race Team of Sellersburg. If it had pistons he could work on it. He was an avid IU sports and NASCAR fan.George was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Helbig.

Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia Thomas of Jeffersonville, Indiana, his brother, Clifford Helbig (Eva) of Henryville, his sister, Mildred Ballard of Sellersburg, his grandchildren, Kayleigh Thomas and Dishayln Thomas. George also leaves behind 2 great grandchildren to cherish his memory, Ava Jones and Reignah Supreme.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg with interment to follow at Sellersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
