George W. Hammond , 94, passed away Monday, January 16, 2017 at Floyd Memorial Hospital.  He was born in Fredricksburg, Indiana to the late George and Alice Hammond.  During WWII he worked on planes at Bowman Field, a member of Clark Co. Masonic Lodge No. 40, F. A.M. in Jeffersonville for over 50 years, lifetime Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite.  George owned and operated, with his wife, G&F Body Shop & Repair for 26 years. Then after moving to Charlestown, he opened a repair shop at his home. He was widely known for his mechanical knowledge. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Frances Hammond and a sister, Ethel Kirk.  Surviving are, cousin, Jetta Burton, Salem, and close friends who loved him dearly.  Funeral services will be held 10AM Friday at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg with burial to follow at Sellersburg Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8PM with a Masonic Service at 6PM and anytime after 9AM until the time of service on Friday.
