Eddie Ray
Miller
Jan 18, 1933 — Jun 20, 2026
Eddie Ray Miller, a beloved member of the Sellersburg community, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the age of 93.
Born on January 18, 1933, in his childhood home in Speed, Indiana, Eddie was the firstborn of eight children born to Raymond and Evelyn (Johnson) Miller.
He was a graduate of Silver Creek High School in Sellersburg, where he was quite the basketball player. Shortly after graduation, he married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Dorothy Frances Montgomery, with whom he shared 72 years of marriage. Their honeymoon was short, as Eddie joined the Navy in 1953 and proudly served his country during the Korean War.
After leaving the Navy, he returned home and started a family. Soon, he and Dorothy welcomed their first son, Rick, and later a second son, Greg.
Eddie worked several small jobs supporting his family before going to work for his uncles at Miller Brother's Meat Market in Sellersburg, where he learned the trade of meat processing. In 1974, he and his brother Steve took a leap of faith and opened Memphis Meat Processing in Memphis, Indiana. Eddie and Steve were quite the team and built a successful business that served the community for more than 20 years. Memphis Meat was sold to Kentucky Bison in 1998. Eddie continued to work there for a few more years before finally deciding to retire. The bass were calling.
Eddie's greatest joy was his faith in God and his family. When asked once what his greatest accomplishment was, he replied, "My two sons."
Reading his Bible daily, attending church on Wednesdays and Sundays, and teaching his children and grandchildren how to be good Christians were among the things most important to him. There were many rides for the grandchildren in the wheelbarrow, and he schooled them in every checker game—he simply couldn't be beat. He enjoyed many "family" Euchre games on Sunday afternoons after dinner, complete with plenty of smack talk. He sure could dish it out. Those same "family" poker games during the holidays will be cherished by so many, where he was fondly known as "Fast Eddie."
When he wasn't at church or home, you could find him on the lake fishing for bass with his son Rick or in a canoe with his youngest son Greg on the Muscatatuck River hunting squirrels.
Eddie will be remembered for his strong faith in God, his true example of a gentle patient man, a devoted Father and Husband and the best example of a true Christian man.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Evelyn (Johnson) Miller; his bride of 72 years, Dorothy Frances Miller; his son, Richard "Rick" Miller; and his beloved granddaughter, Natalie Miller.
Surviving family members who will miss him dearly include his son, Greg Miller; daughter-in-love, Sharon Miller; six grandchildren: Steve Vest (Crystal), Amber Cook, Eddie Henley (Angie), Gregory T. Miller, Kaitlin Cook (Courtney), and Bailey Miller (Kailey); and eight great-grandchildren: Connor, Morgan, Talon, Ethan, Khaleesi, Peyton, Alton, and Dillan. He is also survived by his sister, Doris Vick; brothers, Don Miller, Steve Miller (Sally), and Terry Miller (Shelly); sisters-in-law, Pauline Montgomery, Pam Hickman (Ronnie) and Phyllis Mullins (Earl); and many cherished nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, aides, and staff at Maple Manor for the compassionate and loving care they provided Eddie. Your kindness, patience, and support brought comfort not only to him, but to our entire family during a difficult time.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) with interment to follow at Sellersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
