Obituary

Earl Calvin Mullins, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on October 8, 2026, at the age of 73.

Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Earl Mullins, Sr. and Anna Ragena (Willoughby) Mullins, Earl grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. He attended Portland Christian School with his beloved wife from first grade through graduation, before earning both his undergraduate degree and Juris Doctorate from the University of Louisville.

Earl was an attorney by trade and a minister by faith. Professionally, he was a partner at Mitchner, Mullins & Arrington, and served as Partner and General Counsel for US Housing Components in Buckner, Kentucky. Deeply committed to serving others, he dedicated time and counsel to Access Justice in addition to pro bono legal services.

Above all, Earl’s love for his family was surpassed only by his devotion to Jesus Christ. He served as a minister for various congregations, had an enduring heart for missions, loved and served in various capacities at Portland Christian School, and traveled the globe in service to the Gospel, playing an instrumental role in planting churches worldwide. When challenges arose, Earl was a steady anchor, frequently reminding those around him:

“If this is the worst that happens, we’re going to be ok.”

Earl was preceded in death by his father, Earl Mullins, Sr., and his grandson, Iliad Michael Mullins. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis Joy (Montgomery) Mullins; his mother, Anna Ragena Mullins; his children, Phillip (Abigail) Mullins, Matthew (Savannah) Mullins, Michael (Amanda) Mullins, and Kosuke (Jana) Kato; his grandchildren, Annie, Amelia, Evelyn, Sam, Raylan, Mattox, Wilder, and Indi; his great-granddaughter, Layla; and his siblings, Stephen (Carrell) Mullins, Richard (Terri) Mullins, Alice (Nathan) Grimes, and Beth (Joe) McGarry.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated teams at Norton Cancer Institute in Jeffersonville, Norton Pavillion in Louisville, and SouthernCare Hospice for their compassionate and attentive care.

Services will be held at Memphis Christian Church. Visitation will take place on Sunday, October 11, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and will continue on Monday, October 12, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The funeral service will immediately follow Monday's visitation at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Earl’s honor to Portland Christian School, Norton Cancer Institute of Southern Indiana, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Memphis Christian Church’s building fund.
