Obituary

Dr. Claude James Meyer MD was born on November 10, 1929 in Sellersburg, Indiana, passed peaceably in his home on August 15 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents John Meyer and Hazel Wells Meyer, brother John “Jack” Meyer, and granddaughter Tabitha Armstrong. He attended Silver Creek High School and the University of Indiana. In 1952 he married Bonnie Crocket. He was a Captain in the United States Air Force and station two years in Korea on Kimpo Air Base. Upon his return, he attended the University of Louisville Medical School graduating in 1959. For 40 years, he practiced medicine in the Sellersburg area providing comfort and care for family, friends and community. In 1969 he purchased the local YMCA Camp and has kept it in its natural state. It is his love and legacy and will be passed on to his family to enjoy.

His family includes his children; Melanie Schindler (Doug), Debra Rieger (Wayne), Claudia Rodgers, Claude Meyer Jr. (Kimberly) and George Meyer (Bridget). Grandchildren who called him “Papa Doc”: Amelia Mitchell (Audey), Zachary Rieger (Arlene), Anthony Rieger(Jenn), Michael Rodgers (Sarah), Tabitha Armstrong, Sam, Andy, and Hannah Rinehart, Amanda Meyer and Madison Sutton (Josh) and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 1:00 P.M. until 4:30 P.M. A memorial will be be held to celebrate the life of Dr. Meyer at 4:30 P.M. in the funeral home chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the American Legion post 204 (412 N New Albany Street, Sellersburg, IN 47172) or Hosparus Health (6200 Dutchmans Lane, Louisville, Kentucky 40205).
