Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglass Dee Ward, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this life on Tuesday, October 13th, 2026, at the age of 82. Douglass was a cherished resident of Sellersburg, IN, and his presence in our lives will be profoundly missed.

Born on May 13th, 1944, Douglass was the loving son of the late Harold and Katherine Ward. He shared his life with his beloved spouse, Mary Ellen Ward, who preceded him in death. Together, they built a family tapestry that continues to flourish and honor their memories.

Doug is survived by his sons, Scott Ward , Greg Ward, and Kevin Ward , who carry forward his legacy of love and dedication. He will be fondly remembered by his daughters-in-law, Tammy Ward and Colleen Ward, as well as Kevin's loving partner, Candy, and his brother Lynn Ward, brother-in-law Ron Glotzbach, sister-in-law Barb Mathew, and many loving nieces and nephews and other family members. His grandchildren, Kristin, Joey, Brian, Nick, Kenny, JoAnn, McKendree, and Madison, were the lights of his life, and he delighted in their company. He was also blessed to be the great-grandfather to Caleb, Lily, and Reese.

A man of faith, Doug was deeply involved in his church community and embraced a spiritual life, diligently saying his rosary every day and dedicating time each morning to devotion. His love for travel took him around the world, but his heart always led him back to the embrace of family and friends. An avid reader, he was especially captivated by the works of James Patterson. Douglass also valued daily exercise and found joy in walking and maintaining an active lifestyle.

His life was a testament to the importance of family and faith, always making time for meaningful gatherings, sharing stories, and his beloved Nutty Buddy snack cake, and enjoying Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.

Friends and loved ones are invited to celebrate Doug's life during the visitation at Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg, IN, on Friday, October 16th, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joe Hill Catholic Church in Sellersburg, IN, on Saturday, October 17th, 2026, at 10:00 am.

Arrangements are being managed by Garr Funeral Home, and the family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the loving support during this time.

Doug Ward leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and cherished memories that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his spirit continue to guide and watch over us.
