Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald F. Slone, who departed this life on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on October 28, 1930, in Garner, Kentucky, Donald was a beloved resident of New Albany, Indiana, where he built a life filled with love, dedication, and service.

Donald cherished his family deeply and leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. He is survived by his daughter, Janet Streander (Tom Nichols) and his son, Bob Slone. He also leaves behind his brothers, Benny Slone (Phyllis) and Garnett Slone (Laverne). His spirit and influence will also be cherished by his grandson Jonathon Streander, granddaughter Cassie Slone (Griffin May), and great-grandchildren Jackson Streander, Taylor Streander Nale (Dawson Nale), and Ziggy May. His sister, Geri Wells (Richard) is also left with fond memories of her brother. 

Preceding him in death are his beloved wife, Mary Lou Slone; his son Ken Slone; daughter, Sandra Slone; his parents, Martin and Kansas Slone; and his siblings, John, Gilmer, Wanda, Jean and Pearl who have all welcomed him with open arms into eternal rest. Donald's career was marked by his role as a superintendent at Owens Construction before moving on to Robert Struck & Sons, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. His dedication and leadership left an indelible mark on his colleagues and the businesses he helped build. Before his career, Donald honorably served his country in the Army. His service to the nation was a testament to his character and commitment to the greater good.

 In his personal life, Donald found immense joy in writing country love songs, a creative outlet that showcased his passion for storytelling and music. Additionally, he found solace and satisfaction in gardening.

 Visitation for Donald will be held at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172), on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A funeral service to celebrate and honor his life will follow at 6:00 pm at the same location.
