Daniel Lee
Bogatz
March 14, 1954 – May 7, 2026
Dan knew what he loved, and he loved it fully.
Bass guitars and Ampeg amplifiers. BMWs. Batman and Superman. Monster movies and classic rock. A cold pop in his hand, every single day without fail. These were the things he surrounded himself with, and anyone who spent time with him came to know them well.
He was consistent enough that you knew him, and mysterious enough that you never quite did. Even at the end, you weren't entirely sure if he was messing with you. Knowing Dan, he probably was.
He had a smile he gave away freely, to strangers and friends alike. He held the door for everyone. He made you laugh when you needed it most. He was silly and kind and generous in the way that quiet, good people are.
He loved Elvis, Steppenwolf, Styx, and The Beatles. (He hated Yoko Ono.) He could tell you not just the songs, but the band members, the stories, and the details that most people never thought to learn.
He loved computers and took genuine pride in his work. He made an impact on people at every job he had, from People's Natural Gas in Omaha to Crane Naval Base in Indiana.
He loved Alcatraz with an enthusiasm that was entirely his own, visiting eight times, just because he could.
More than any of it, he loved his daughter.
After a journey with dementia, Dan passed away on May 7, 2026, at the age of 72. He was surrounded by the people who loved him most, his wife and his daughter, right up until the very end. Through every part of the journey, his wife Sandra was by his side, taking care of him with everything she had.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Bogatz; his daughter, Megan Bogatz (Austin Morris); his stepson, Benjamin Bezy (Rebecca); his grandchildren, Bo, Leland, and Ronen Bezy; his brother, Brian Bogatz; and his sister, Barbara Healey (Kevin Schmidt).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor Bogatz; his father, Robert Lee Stoney; and his brother, David Lee Bogatz.
A private service will be held at Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg, Indiana. He will be laid to rest at Hickory Grove Cemetery following the service.
He will be deeply missed.
