IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bertram "Darrell"
Short, Jr.
September 5, 1955 – October 5, 2024
Bertram "Darrell" Short, Jr. , 69, entered into eternity on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Norton Clark Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Born on September 5, 1955, in Louisville, Kentucky, Darrell lived a life full of love, adventure, and dedication.
He retired after 30 years of loyal service from the Ford truck plant in Louisville, Kentucky, where his hard work and commitment made a lasting impact on all those he worked with. Darrell enjoyed pursuing his passions for the great outdoors. He found joy in hunting, fishing, and feeding the birds, always taking time to appreciate the beauty of nature. Fittingly, Darrell spent his last day fishing, one of his favorite pastimes.
Above all else, Darrell cherished spending time with his family, particularly his beloved great-great niece, affectionately known as "Squirmy." The bond they shared brought him immense joy, and his fondest memories were of the time they spent together.
Darrell's warmth, humor, and love of life will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Darrell was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Darrel and Irene Short and by his mother, Sammy and Don Carpenter.
Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, DeeDee Short of Memphis, Indiana, his brothers, Terry Kessinger of Fort Meyers, Florida, Ted Kessinger of Clark County, Indiana and his nieces and nephew, Samantha Licate, Lyndsey MacDonald, Heather Kessinger and Brandon Kessinger. Darrell also leaves many nieces and nephews from DeeDee's side of the family.
A memorial visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, October 11, 2024 at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana). DeeDee would like to invite anyone with a good picture of Darrell to bring it to visitation to share.
