April 10, 1949 – May 2, 2024
Bernee Hoomana Lewi , 75, a woman of unwavering faith and boundless compassion, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 10, 1949, in Hilo, Hawaii, to the late Joseph and Helen Lewi (Mederis), Bernee carried the spirit of her Hawaiian roots throughout her life.
For 26 years, Bernee dedicated herself to serving others as a nurse's assistant at Floyd Memorial Hospital. Her selflessness extended far beyond the hospital walls, as anyone who crossed her path would attest. A devout Christian and member of the New Albany Assembly of God church, Bernee's faith was evident in every aspect of her life. She shared her love for God by teaching Sunday school and serving as a prayer partner to many.
Bernee's generosity knew no bounds; her home was always open, and visitors never left empty-handed. Her acts of kindness extended to the less fortunate, as she volunteered her time to help the homeless, embodying the true spirit of compassion.
In addition to her legacy of love and service, Bernee leaves behind a cherished son, Jason Collins, and his wife Tina, of Charlestown, Indiana. She adored her grandchildren, Casey Jones, Mandy Collins, Teslin Tompkins (Stacey), Nikki Rein (Jared), Bethany Rein (Dylan), and Shea Campbell (Dylan), who brought endless joy to her life. Bernee's memory will be treasured by her 10 great-grandchildren: Isabella, Grayson, Fletcher, Zayne, ElainaMae, Landon, Lincoln, Kyla, Danikia, and Mason.
Bernee is reunited in eternity with her siblings, Gertrude, Hiram, and Albert.
