Alta M. Shields , 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Sellersburg on Thursday, December 24, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on the 29th of October, 1924 to the late Elmer Roy and Myrta Ashabranner (Neeld) in Floyd County, Indiana. Alta was a retired owner and operator of Shields Water Company. She was a member of the Grace Community Church in Sellersburg. Alta was a past area Captain of the Tops Organization and member of the St. Joe Extension Home Makers. Her passions included fishing, camping, sewing, quilt making and spending precious time with her family. Alta was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Shields and by her brother and her sister.

Survivors include her daughters, Sandra L. Shields of Clarksville, Ellen Doss (James) of Sellersburg, her niece,  Diana Brown of New Albany, grandchildren, Rondle Shields(Lori), Jeffrey Shields, Jason Shields (Shannon), Laura Schenck (Darryll), Brandon Doss (Stfanie) and Rodney Doss (Renee). Alta also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren to cherish her memory.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, December 28, 2020 at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg with interment to follow at Sellersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Monday from 12:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
