William "Bill" J. Waiz, Sr.

William “Bill” Waiz, Sr., 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on February 13, 1926 to the late Joseph and Lena Waiz (Schindler). Mr. Waiz was an alumni of High Point University where he played college basketball from 1949 through 1951. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.  In the early 1960’s Mr. Waiz coached basketball for St. Paul Catholic School in Sellersburg, Indiana.  He retired from BF Goodrich after 30 years of work as a Pipe Fitter. Mr. Waiz was a member of the American Legion Post 204 Color Guard of Sellersburg, Post 205 of Jeffersonville, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Jeffersonville. His favorite past time included fishing, hunting, following basketball and spending time with his family. Mr. Waiz was preceded in death by Barbara A. Waiz, his 9 brothers and sisters and by his daughter-in-law, Debbie Waiz .

Survivors include Donna Collier, his sons, Billy (Doris) Waiz, Alan (Annie) Waiz, Brian (Carla) Waiz, daughters, Lynn (Bob) Underwood, Donna (Steve) Smith, Carolyn Waiz, Janice (Bill) Wilson, grandchildren, Gretchen deWeber, Julie Flynn, Zachary Smith, Jordan Waiz, Lore Waiz, Jacob Waiz, Andrew Underwood, Francesca Sanderson, Billy Wilson, Jenna Waiz, Dylan Waiz, Vivian Waiz, Eric Standiford, Jonathan Pace, Neal Pace, Brandon Pace and twenty-four, great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at St. John Paul II Catholic Church (St. Joe Campus) in Sellersburg with interment to follow in St. Joe Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Garr Funeral Home on Tuesday from 12:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until the processional to the church.
