James “Jim” C. Hardy, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana. He was born on January 10, 1929 to the late James and Evelyn Hardy (Gill) in Louisville, Kentucky. He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Mr. Hardy worked at A. Diefenbach & Son in Sellersburg where he worked as a parts manager. He later became the Owner/Operator of Hardy Oil Company where he retired. Mr. Hardy was a member of the St. John Paul II Catholic Church (St. Paul Campus), the American Legion Post 204 and the American Legion Post 204 Color Guard. He loved his family and cherished every moment he spent with them. Mr. Hardy’s favorite past time was spending time on his patio where everyone was welcome. He was preceded in death by 5 sisters, 2 brothers and one grandson.
Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Rose Hardy of Sellersburg, his sons, Michael Hardy (Janet) of Louisville, George Hardy (Becky) of Sellersburg, his daughters, Linda Taylor (Virgil) of New Albany, Rose Dietrich (Jim) Clarksville, Mary Reel (KC) of Clarksville, his brother, Thomas Hardy of Louisville and his sister, Sharon Zoeller of Louisville. Mr. Hardy also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren to cherish his memory.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at St. John Paul II Catholic Church (St. Paul Campus) with interment to follow at Sellersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg.
