Norma Jean Burgan, the beloved matriarch of her family and renowned for her "country cooking" skills, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2024, at the age of 93. She was born on April 29, 1930, to the late William and Ethel Whalen, and throughout her life, she exemplified dedication, love, and unwavering faith.

Norma's devotion to her family was unparalleled. She was the cornerstone of their lives, always offering guidance, support, and unconditional love. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and comfort, where she showcased her exceptional cooking talents, earning her the reputation of being the best cook in the world among those who were fortunate enough to savor her meals.

Her exceptional work ethic was a testament to her character spending 45 plus years at the Army Ammunition Plant(ICI). Norma approached every task with diligence and determination, setting an inspiring example for generations to come. Her commitment to hard work served as a guiding light for her family and all who knew her.

A devout Catholic, Norma found solace and strength in her faith. She was a lifelong member of St. Joe Hill/St. John Paul II church, where her presence was cherished by the community. Her unwavering commitment to her beliefs was a source of inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Norma was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Eugene "Red" Burgan, her son Stephen Burgan, and son-in-law Mike Landers. She is survived by her loving sons Bob Burgan (Barbara), Bill Burgan (Pam); daughter Patty Landers; grandchildren Melisa Slater(Jack), Melissa Timberlake(Jeff), Patrick Burgan(Angela), John Landers(Dana), Jennifer Burgan, Robert Burgan, Sara Lacy(Charles), Erin Burgan, and Eric Burgan. 20 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Her funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. John Paul II church. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Garr Funeral Home, located at 7806 Hwy 311, Sellersburg, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the church in memory of Norma J. Burgan.

Norma will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were touched by her kindness, generosity, and love. Though she may no longer be with us in person, her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she cherished. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her beloved husband and son.
