Grayson James Deckard Obituary

Grayson James Deckard, 11, left this world on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, after bravely confronting cancer. Born on August 15, 2012 in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Grayson's bright spirit illuminated the lives of all who knew him. A fifth-grade student at Silver Creek Elementary School, he excelled in his High Ability coursework, demonstrating a remarkable intellect and passion for learning.

From the age of 5, Grayson's heart belonged to baseball, and he poured his energy into the sport he loved. As a valued member of the Ironmen baseball team, his dedication and skill on the field inspired all who watched him play. Yet, beyond his athletic prowess, Grayson's warm and welcoming nature endeared him to everyone he encountered. With a smile that could brighten the darkest day, he effortlessly forged connections, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those fortunate enough to meet him. During his battle Grayson showed amazing courage and exhibited an awe-inspiring mental toughness. He fought bravely using composure that most adults could not muster. His family continues to be inspired by his ability to overcome his daily circumstances over the past year, either through Roblox games, MLB the Show, a laugh, a giggle or unforgettable charm.

In his short time on Earth, Grayson taught us the true meaning of courage, resilience, and unconditional love. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will forever echo in the memories of those who were touched by his kindness and grace. Grayson was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James and Laura Smith.

Survivors include his father, Clayton Deckard of Sellersburg, Indiana, his mother and stepfather, Ashley and Chris Hamilton of Corydon, Indiana, his sisters, Katherine and Sydney Hanover, his paternal grandmother, Diana Miller of Sellersburg, his maternal grandparents, Regina Moody of Sellersburg, Ray Brooks of Jeffersonville and his uncles, Eric Deckard of New Salisbury, Indiana, Adam Brooks of Georgetown, Indiana and Daniel Moody of Sellersburg.
